Splinter Sessions: SWAP & LYRA Calibration |
Session Detail
Session 1: Introduction
Topic: A few overview talks on the state of PROBA2, MOC, SOC, SWAP, LYRA, etc
Discussion: How to better coordinate between SWAP, LYRA, DSLP, TPMU and PICARD to optimize the science outcome
Chair: David
Contributions:
- PROBA2 Mission and Spacecraft Overview - Joe Zender (ESA)
- SWAP state + side-effects of temperature evolution - Dan Seaton (ROB)
- LYRA state + side-effects of temperature evolution - Marie Dominique (ROB)
- One year of DSLP operations on Proba2 - Stepan Stverak
- PICARD overview and possible PROBA2-PICARD synergies - Steven De Witte (RMI, B)
Session 2: Flares & Eruptions
Topic: Besides occultations, flares are the most distinctive features in LYRA and eruptions are the most distinctive feature for SWAP. So what are we learning? This session is covering the ways in which we can analyze, or predict flares and CME eruptions in LYRA and SWAP, and how to operate the instruments so that the PROBA2 data fulfill the criteria which are necessary to perform a proper scientific analysis.
Discussion:
- What are examples of successful event studies using SWAP or LYRA data?
- What was the advantage/disadvantage of PROBA2 data in this respect?
- What are your wildest dreams on future SWAP/LYRA data in this framework?
- How to best use our IOS flexibility to react to upcoming space weather opportunities?
Chair: Anik
Contributions:
- 'Global coronal waves in EUVI, EIT, SWAP' - Ines Kienreich (University of Graz, Austria)
- Modelling CMEs observed by PROBA2 - Carla Jacobs (CPA, B)
- 'Flares & radiometer work' - Matthieu Kretzschmar (Orleans)
- SPOCA results for SWAP, towards AFFECTS timelines - Cis Verbeeck (ROB)
- Towards flare detection & prediction with the SWAP CMOS imager (preliminary results) - Katrien Bonte (CPA, B)
Session 3: Fast solar oscillatory dynamics
Topic: The 100Hz of LYRA is unique and in its 'exclusivity zone', the 18s cadence of SWAP in not bad either. In this session we review how we make use of these assets. Presenters are invited to highlight how they used these assets to accomplish the scientific results they are presenting. Please add a slide on the opportunities and limitations of PROBA2 in the context of their scientific investigation, and suggestions for improvements on future data.
Discussion: Is 100Hz operations useful? Is SWAP high cadence imaging useful. What have we missed up till now?
Chair: Ronald
Contributions:
- Introduction on fast, oscillatory phenomena in corona + quasi-periodic oscillations in LYRA data - Tom Van Doorsselaere, CPA (B)
- High cadence waves in SWAP in off limb regions (polar, active regions) - Dipankar Banerjee (IIAP, India)
- Guest Investigator work of Kariyappa (IIAP, India) - presented by Marie Dominique
- Investigation of the smallest time scales in the variability of the solar spectral irradiance - Thierry Dudok de Wit (title TBC)

- Dan: April 3 event study (TBC)
Session 5: The static structure of the off-limb corona
Topic: large FOV and off-pointing are supposedly critical assets for us. In this session we review how we make use of this.
Discussion: Are off-pointings useful? How far from the Sun do we truly get signal?
Chair: Dan

Session 6: Occultations + irradiance
Topic: EUV occultations - PMOD use of LYRA data Again, presenters are asked to present one slide on the opportunities and limitations of PROBA2 in the context of their scientific investigation + suggestions for improvements on future data.
Discussion: We are particularly interested to learn about the opportunities and limitations of the PROBA2 instruments for this scientific purpose, and any suggestions for improvements on future data.
