PROBA2 data processing to be paused on June 30

In anticipation of important network maintenance planned at the Belgian Space Pole where the PROBA2 Science Center is located, we will stop the processing of SWAP and LYRA data at 10:00 LT on June 30, 2021. This maintenance will affect to complete network infrastructure of the Space Pole and the network is expected to be unstable throughout the day. That also means that our website may be unavailable from time to time.

SWAP and LYRA Calibration Campaign between 2021-Jun-23 03:00 UT and 2021-Jun-24 11:30 UT

We inform all PROBA2 data users that there will be no regular science data from SWAP between about 2021-Jun-23 03:00 UT and 2021-Jun-24 11:30 UT due to a special SWAP calibration campaign. LYRA data may sporadically be available during the campaign. However, we warn our users not to count on the availability of data from either of the sun-observing PROBA2 instruments during Wednesday and Thursday morning of this week.

On 10 June 2021, the Belgian PROBA2 Science Center team will be able to witness a solar eclipse with their own eyes (weather permitting). In parts of Russia and Canada one can witness this event as an even more spectacular annular eclipse.

December 14, eclipse time!

On Monday December 14, a total solar eclipse, the last eclipse of 2020, was visible from parts of Chile and Argentina. Weather permitting, some locations in South America, south-west Africa, and Antarctica saw the partial phase of this eclipse, as did the instruments onboard PROBA2.

Long-term evolution of the solar corona using PROBA2 data

We studied the evolution of the solar corona observed throughout solar cycle 24 (from 2010 to 2019), by using PROBA2/SWAP images, PROBA2/LYRA irradiance time series, and the latest version of the International Sunspot Number (ISN) dataset.
 

Solstice Eclipse

On June 21, 2020 an annular eclipse took place, reaching its maximum at 06:40 UTC. The annular phase of this solar eclipse was visible from parts of Africa (including the Central African Republic, Congo, and Ethiopia), south of Pakistan and northern India, and China.
